Welcome! We are looking forward to teaching your child and providing meaningful experiences to develop a lifelong love for learning. This letter will explain what one should expect this year. It will probably be a good idea to keep this letter at home so you may refer back to it if necessary.
The VPK program is from 8:30 – 11:30. The doors next to the playground will be staffed from 8:15 – 8:30 am and 11:30-11:45 for your admittance to the program. These doors will be unlocked from 3:15 – 6:00 for the aftercare program. Students dropped off outside these times must enter through the front office. However, if your VPK child is attending the before care program (7:00-8:15 am), please ring the doorbell for admittance. The doorbell is only to be used to gain admittance to the before care program to minimize disruption of learning in the building.
Students MUST be signed in/out every day by an ADULT. Therefore, they cannot be picked up from the car rider line. Be sure to include all permitted persons on your pick-up/emergency list as we cannot release your child to anyone not listed.
The following is a sample schedule pertaining to Mondays-Thursdays. Fun Fridays will have a slightly different schedule, due to other activities. Students in the class will be divided into 2 groups: A and B. Actual schedule times may vary.

- 8:15-8:30 Arrival/Table Games
- 8:30-9:00 Morning Circle
- 9:00-9:45 First Rotation: Group A – Centers and Small Groups Group B – Outside
- 9:50-10:15 Snack and Read Aloud
- 10:15-11:00 Second Rotation: Group A – Outside; Group B – Centers and Small Groups
- 11:00-11:30 Circle Time /Group Activity/Phonological Awareness Activity
- 11:30-3:15 Extended Care (Lunch, Nap, Outside Play, Music and/or Educational Video, Art
- 3:15-6:00 After Care (Snack, Outside Play, Free Play in Centers)
- Before care: 7:00-8:15: $5/daily
- Extended care: 11:30-3:15: $10 daily
- After care: 3:15-6:00: $10 daily
Uniform shirts (Spirit T-shirt) may be purchased for $5 at the front office. Students are to be in their Spirit shirt with khaki, black, or blue shorts, slacks, or skort. The only exception is when we have a specific dress up day.
Please send in one or two HEALTHY snack items with your child every day along with a water bottle. We reward each child who eats fresh fruit or vegetables and water for snack. If your child is staying after 11:30, you should also pack a lunch or purchase a lunch for $2.05. Checks can be made out to Buffalo Creek Middle School. You may also go to www.mypaymentsplus.com to make online payments. Please see the front desk or go to www.manateeschools.net to apply for free/reduced lunch.
Students will be given coins for positive behavior and other incentives. These coins are to be used to receive prizes from the Treasure Box. We always welcome donations for the Treasure Box. J
What to Provide From Home
Please bring in an extra set of clothing in case of an accident. If your child will be staying past 11:30, he/she will also need a small blanket, nap mat, and mat cover. All blankets go home on Fridays to be washed. Children are NOT permitted to bring toys or candy to school, unless the toy is for show-n-share.
We will have Show-n-Share for the letter of the week. The specific day will be chosen at the beginning of the school year. Please have your child bring in something that starts with the letter of the week.
Environmental print books will go home with your child to work on throughout the year. This book should be turned in weekly. We will also have a reading log for your child to complete by the end of each month. Rewards will be given for completed reading logs. Other homework may also be assigned throughout the year.
The first couple of weeks of school are a period of adjustment for pre-kindergarten children. Leaving home, getting to know new friends, and learning about the classroom and school are very big steps. This adjustment can be made easier if parents postpone visiting the classroom until after the first two weeks of school. Once the adjustment period is complete, parents are welcome to volunteer in the classroom. Most of the time, we need assistance with assembling papers/homework packets, which may be done at home as well. Every Imagine parent needs to complete 20 volunteer hours each year. Donations can also be made. Each $10 worth of donations equals one volunteer hour. We will also need volunteers on special events or parties in the classroom as well as school wide.
Birthday party invitations may not be sent to school unless there is one for every student or every student of the same gender (i.e. “girls only” or “boys only”). If you would like, you may send a snack or cupcakes that day for your child to share with classmates, keeping in mind each class has about 20 students. Everything must be store bought.
