STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
CHARACTER PLAN

Character Development is an integral part of student life at Imagine School North Manatee Campus. Our focus is divided into four categories.
I. School Climate
II. Integrated Character and Academic Achievement
III. Family and Community Involvement
IV. Student Interactions

Our Character Education Program utilizes the nationally recognized system "Character Counts". The six pillars of character developed in each focus area are:

1. Trustworthiness (blue like a true blue friend)
Be honest • Don’t deceive, cheat or steal • Be reliable — do what you say you’ll do • Have the courage to do the right thing • Build a good reputation • Be loyal — stand by your family, friends and country.

2. Respect (yellow like the golden rule)
Treat others with respect; follow the Golden Rule • Be tolerant of differences • Use good manners, not bad language • Be considerate of the feelings of others • Don’t threaten, hit or hurt anyone • Deal peacefully with anger, insults and disagreements.

3. Responsibility (green like being responsible for a garden or solid like an oak)
Do what you are supposed to do • Persevere: keep on trying! • Always do your best • Use self-control • Be self-disciplined • Think before you act — consider the consequences • Be accountable for your choices.

4. Fairness (dividing an orange in equal sections to share)
Play by the rules • Take turns and share • Be open-minded; listen to others • Don’t take advantage of others • Don’t blame others carelessly.

5. Caring ( red like a heart)
Be kind • Be compassionate and show you care • Express gratitude • Forgive others • Help people in need
.
6. Citizenship (regal purple like representing the state)
Do your share to make your school and community better • Cooperate • Get involved in community affairs • Stay informed; vote • Be a good neighbor • Obey laws and rules • Respect authority • Protect the environment.
ANTI-BULLYING POLICY

The Imagine School at North Manatee teachers and staff have made a commitment to provide a bully free school for all our students. Bullying is defined as deliberate hostile activity, repeated over time, and marked by an imbalance of power, intent to harm, and/or threat of aggression.

We have adopted a no-tolerance policy when it comes to all types of bullying behavior (physical, verbal, relational aggression, sexual harassment, and cyberbullying). This policy will be supported through direct education, immediate consequences, and strong school-wide character development, in order to create and maintain a physically and emotionally safe learning environment.

Bullying Hotline
Children and parents, if you feel that you or your child are being treated in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe at school, you have the ability to utilize this number to report any incident of bullying.

The number is 1-800-710-6581

STUDENT PLEDGE
CHARACTER MISSION

Our character mission is interwoven into both our mission and vision statements. It is our mission to nurture positive character in all of our students. Our vision statement is based on the Six Measures of Excellence. We believe that Character Development is necessary to the healthy growth of our school. Our mission is to instill the Six Traits of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Citizenship and Caring in our students so they become people of character. We want our students to grow a deeper understanding of these traits and to live by them in all areas of their lives.

In order to increase emphasis on our school’s character values we established the goal of creating and then implementing a school wide character pledge that each student would commit to memory. The pledge was intentionally written to align with our 6 character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Once the character pledge was completed, we included it in our daily morning announcements. Each morning after saying the Pledge of Allegiance, all students remain standing and also recite the Character Pledge.
